Skeena Wild has given out its first conservation award to a local forester.
The award was given in recognition of outstanding community contributions to natural resource conservation.
Fred Philpot was recognized by the trust for his work in the Gitanyow Nation’s land use plan and the forestry sector since the 1960s.
In a short ceremony looking over the Skeena River, Philpot was gifted a wooden fish carved by a local artist.
SkeenaWild says they plan on making the award an annual occurrence.
