Toxic drugs deaths have hit a record in the first seven months of a calendar year according to the B.C. Coroners Service.
Between January and July, 1,455 deaths were reported and attributed to toxic drugs.
In July alone, 198 people lost their lives to the toxic drug supply.
Although that demonstrates a 5% decrease over last July, it’s continuing a 13 month trend of over 190 deaths.
The leading cause of death in British Columbia, the Northwest and Northern Interior are amongst the most impacted health service areas.
