Blueberry River First Nations is currently developing a bat stewardship project.
Focusing on the Pink Mountain Area, the project aims to improve roosting with bat boxes, monitor the use of said boxes, and promote knowledge sharing.
BRFN says that bats in their territory play a vital role in pest control, pollination, and seed dispersal.
As well, BRFN territory is home to two endangered bat species the Little Brown Myotis, and the Northern Myotis.
So, the nation hopes to protect them and the other various species from common threats like habitat loss, white-nose syndrome, wind farms, climate change, and predation.
