New tipping fees at the Kitimat Landfill are getting closer for both residential self-haulers and commercial waste customers.
Currently, residential self-haul trips are free and would stay that way until 2023, but with the addition of $50 per tonne over 100 kilograms.
However, if adopted, starting in 2024 per trip costs will become $5, while the per tonne rate would raise to $75.
For commercial users, rates will go up to $50 per tonne and rise in future years.
Regardless of adoption, the scale house at the landfill will be in operation in October, weighing all vehicles upon entry and exit.
A third and final reading of the proposed bylaw amendments will be presented to Kitimat Council on Monday, with possible adoption on September 25.
