BC United leader Kevin Falcon has introduced his plan to crack down on violence and improve public safety in the province.
Titled “Safer BC”, the plan aims to end the catch and release cycle for repeat offenders, and address the root causes of crime.
It looks to aggressively fill 500 policing vacancies, expand consequences for all crimes, and end BC’s decriminalization of illicit drugs.
Falcon also plans to offer those facing sentencing the option between traditional incarceration and secure mental health and addictions treatment within correctional facilities.
He also plans to pursue civil litigation against drug dealers who sell illicit drugs resulting in the death of a user.
Other points include: body-cameras and other supports for officers, a crackdown on bail offenders, equal access to courts, and efforts to control illicit drug supplies.
In total, the plan is expected to cost $520 million over 3 years.
