A 150,000 litre tank of fatty acids is the surprising next step in the on-going development of an inland port and transloading facility in Terrace.
In May, after a series of other amendments, the City granted a development permit to allow for the transload facility at 4900 Keith Avenue.
Now, project operators from the NSD Development Corporation have found a customer who brings a unique request.
Said customer would be off-loading diesel from rail tankers onto trucks for transport off-site, after it is blended into bio-diesel.
As part of the process, a blended additive of fatty acids needs to be added to the diesel in order to create bio-diesel.
In order to store the required acid at the site, NSD is requesting a zoning amendment to allow for a 150,000 litre tank to be stored at the location.
Council gave two readings to the bylaw, which will need to go through a public hearing before it can be officially adopted.
