Williams Lake First Nation Councillor and former Chief Councillor Rick Gilbert has passed away.
Gilbert had served as the WLFN’s first ever Band Administrator, and as its Chief Councillor from 1974 to 1992.
After a two decade hiatus, he would be elected as a councillor in 2012, a position which he held until his passing on Monday.
In an statement released yesterday, the Nation pointed to the wisdom, kindness, humour, and dedication he brought to his community.
Nation members are invited to join in drumming in Gilbert’s honour at Cariboo-Chilcotin Funeral Services on Comer Street at 11:00 Monday morning.
A service will be held at the Sacred Heart Church at 11:00 in the morning on October 5th, followed by a procession to Chief William Pow Wow Arbor for a ceremony, feast and lahal.
