Unsatisfied with the NDP wildfire response, BC United leader Kevin Falcon announced his party’s ideas for wildfire management.
Falcon characterized their 5 policy reforms as “modernized” and “proactive” while utilizing local expertise.
Of those, modernized firefighting services would include full-time front-line personnel, an expanded provincial aircraft fleet, and new fire suppression technology.
He says local expertise and response teams would be better equipped, and automatic financial support for evacuees for the first 72 hours would be established.
An overhaul of forestry management like selective harvesting, and expedited permits is something Falcon says would help to prevent wildfire devastation.
That comes as BC has experienced its worst wildfire season to date, burning over 2 million hectares since April 1.
