Fort St John’s newly completed net-zero RCMP detachment is expected to consume over 80 percent less energy than its predecessor.
Located right next door to the old detachment on 100 Street, the $51 million facility boasts a number of efficiency-boosting upgrades.
Between its contemporary design, mass timber construction, and 145 kilowatt photovoltaic system, the facility is expected to save $60,000 in energy charges annually.
It’s construction followed an integrated design process allowing everyone involved in the build to collaborate on its final design.
Most of the funding for the new facility came from the City, through the Peace River Agreement, with the RCMP contributing through annual lease payments.
