Four more wildfire fighters have passed away in what has been one of the deadliest years on record for the profession.
All four were contracted crew members who had just wrapped up a tour of duty battling flames around Vanderhoof and were on their way home.
But at around 2:00 yesterday morning, their vehicle would collide with a semi-truck along Highway 1 east of Cache Creek, claiming the lives of all four.
Investigators believe the driver of the vehicle crossed the centre line after failing to navigate a bend before colliding with the semi.
Their deaths bring the total number of wildfire fighters who have lost their lives in Western Canada since July to eight.
It comes amid the worst wildfire season in the country’s history, as countless wildfire fighters continue to risk their lives to save others each day.
