An overnight closure of the Haisla Bridge which had been slated for this Saturday has been pushed to September 30th.
It will be the first of two upcoming closures on the new bridge to allow crews to get to work removing and demolishing the old structure.
Removal of the 69 year-old bridge’s spans will need to be done in two segments, during which time the new structure will be inaccessible.
Work will see each span jacked above the new bridge, then slid on top of it, before being transported to the Service Centre for shearing.
Crews will begin removal of the first span at 7:30 in the evening on September 30th, with efforts wrapping up at 3:30 the next morning.
During that time, both bridges will be closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
A date has not yet been set for the removal of the second span.
