A report summarizing the work of Terrace’s Downtown and Community Safety Officers shows a decrease in encampments.
Working in tandem with Bylaw Officers, so far in 2023, CSOs have responded to 60 tents, shelters, or camps in unpermitted areas.
That’s compared to 80 reported in the same time frame in 2022.
The report states that the reduction could be due to the relocation of Ksan’s shelter, offering new beds and additional outdoor space.
In addition, the report details that CSOs responded to 1,069 recorded occurrences from May to September.
Of those, 281 were in response to alcohol consumption and 231 were for loitering.
The report also states CSO’s collaboration with RCMP and Bylaw in initiatives to reduce crime and connect with at-risk individuals.
