Drivers in Kitimat are being warned of a number of upcoming traffic delays as crews get to work removing the old Haisla Bridge structure.
Removal of the 69 year-old bridge will need to be done in two segments, with each span being jacked over the new structure and lowered on to it.
From there, the spans will be transported to the Service Centre for sheering and disposal, but the work will need to be done in two segments.
In order to allow for the first phase, Station Street will be closed between Haisla Boulevard and Enterprise Avenue beginning at 7:30 Friday night, and will remain closed through October 7th.
Traffic over the bridge will also be reduced to single lane alternating from the same time until the work gets underway at 7:30 Saturday evening.
From then until 3:30 the next morning, the bridge will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians, with traffic blocked between Kuldo and 3rd Street.
There is no word as of yet on when the second span will be removed.
