Today, on Good Medicine with Lucy Tulugarjuk…
We discuss her new Canadian film— Tautuktavuk (What We See).
This documentary style film is about two siblings’ attempts to heal and overcome trauma during the pandemic. The connection between the sisters and their culture is the driving force for opening up hard, but necessary, discussions about domestic and childhood abuse.
Listen to our conversation about what this film means to her, the struggles of filing during covid, and how culture prevails despite government protocols. We chat about her past work, peoples reactions to the film, her role models, words of encouragement for others, and what she does to take care of herself.
Lucy spoke about how she refused to be labelled an alcoholic and sought out role models for her sobriety. She discussed the process of receiving her traditional hand poked tattoos, and how it was the right design at the right time with the right people.
Remember Lucys words of encouragement: take time for self-care, it’s ok to have self love, and It takes time to recover from abuse, in order to get there we need to confront the truth, Believe in yourself
If you’re reading this, I want you to pause right now, and if you’re able to, look yourself in the mirror and say “I love you”. If you cant, it’s ok, try again anyway and maybe one day you’ll be able to as well.
