It didn’t take long for new Conservative Leader John Rustad to draw the ire of Premier David Eby as the Fall legislative session got underway.
With Bruce Banman hopping over to the Conservative’s last month, yesterday’s session marked their first as an official party in some time.
For his first question on the floor as party leader, Rustad brought up the on-going protests over the province’s gender identity policies in schools.
Making note of the protests, Rustad called on the Premier to acknowledge the policy as divisive and a distraction to education.
But, Eby was having none of it, saying that Rustad was leveraging and feeding division in a way that would make children feel less safe in schools.
Eby called the question unwelcome, shameful, and an attempt to politicize culture wars, and demanded he ask a different question.
His retort was met with applause from NDP, Green, and BC United MLAs alike.
