Houston Mayor Shane Brienen is looking to steal the riding held by the leader of the BC Conservatives in 2024’s provincial election.
BC United leader Kevin Falcon announced Brienen as his party’s candidate in the Nechako Lakes riding yesterday.
It’s a riding which has been held by Conservative leader John Rustad since 2005, when he had served as a member of the then Liberal party.
Rustad was ejected from the party in 2022 before crossing the aisle, but has yet to win an election under his new party affiliation.
Meanwhile, Brienen has served as mayor of Houston since 2014, adding another three terms on Council before that.
British Columbians are set to hit the polls next October, and Premier David Eby has maintained that he has no intention of rescheduling.
