After more than a year of prep work, construction is finally set to begin on a long-anticipated youth Foundry Centre in Burns Lake.
Carrier Sekani Family Services and representatives from Foundry hosted a ground breaking ceremony at the future site of the centre today.
It will be located at 686 McPhail Road, just across the street from Lakes District Secondary School, giving youth easy access to its services.
Once completed, it will offer integrated health and wellness services, drop-in youth services from CSFS, and connections to health and social services supports.
It will also feature beautifully designed indoor and outdoor spaces for youth to gather, connect, and enjoy recreation options.
Construction is expected to be completed in early 2025, at a total price tag of $6.7 million.
Some of that came from the province, while the Burns Lake Community Forest, Babine Forest Products, and Bulkley Valley Credit Union also pitching in.
A check for $25,000 was also presented by the Nechako-Kitimaat Development Fund during the ceremony.
Foundry Burns Lake will be operated by CSFS once work is complete.
