Local artist Nicholas John has been selected to have his artwork grace the side of the new RCMP detachment in Prince Rupert.
John was among 11 artists to send in submissions with the goal of designing a piece which shows off the culture and themes of the North Coast.
At the centre of his design is a majestic eagle symbolizing strength and grace, and reflecting the RCMP’s commitment to protecting the community.
Towering tree tops surround the eagle, paying homage to the Great Bear Rainforest, and serving as a reminder of the shared responsibility to preserve it for future generations.
It also features a series of stripes in the background, representing the City’s rainbow icon and its diversity and interconnectedness.
John takes home the grand prize of $10,000 for his work, while Chris Fraser and Kristen Mckay came in second and third place, respectively.
Fraser and Mckay’s submissions will also be used in future community projects around town.
