Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach’s months-long fight for improved air passenger protections continued in the House of Commons yesterday.
Bachrach tabled a petition signed by 4,000 Canadians frustrated with current protections following several seasons of travel chaos.
It calls on Ottawa to adopt legislation similar to the system used in Europe, and mirroring Bill C-327, introduced by Bachrach in March.
If passed, it would close loopholes allowing airlines to avoid paying compensation, and only allow them to avoid doing so in extreme cases.
One month after Bachrach tabled his Bill, Ottawa introduced legislation which would fix some of the issues.
At that point, the Canadian Transportation Agency had reported a backlog of over 42,000 complaints, but Bachrach says that’s now well over 50,000.
His battle for improved protections began in January, after thousands of Canadians were stranded in airports over the holiday season.
