BC has become the first province in Canada to sign a bilateral agreement with Ottawa to improve health care provincewide.
In February, the Federal Government announced an investment of $25 billion over 10 years to work on bilateral agreements with the provinces.
It came alongside the caveat that provinces needed to submit plans to improve health information sharing and data access, among others.
Now, Ottawa has approved of BC’s three year action plan, which will net them $1.2 billion over that time, including $325 million in new funding annually.
Under the plan, BC will need to increase the number of residents with electronic access to their own health records to 75 percent, and service providers who can safely share patient data to 50 percent.
It will also bring 83 new acute care beds under an innovative model, enhance youth access to mental health and addictions treatment, and enhance access to culturally safe care for First Nations.
