A rally is being held by the Gitxsan Huwilp Government to call for an end to court-ordered injunctions for industry projects on Indigenous lands.
They say the orders allow for the looting of their lands, and are an effort to extinguish Indigenous culture and rights for the sake of industry greed.
Attendees of the rally will also call for the dismantling of the RCMP’s controversial Community Industry Response Group.
Tasked with addressing crime during incidents related to industry projects, the group is often deployed in response to opposition from Indigenous land defenders.
In addition, the rally will call for the RCMP to sign an armistice agreement presented by the Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs in April.
It would limit the C-IRG’s access to their territory, calls for the cessation of hostile acts, and reduces the number of RCMP allowed on their territory to 9.
Ralliers marched to the steps of the Supreme Court building in Vancouver this morning to push for their requests.
