A pair of toxic drug alerts have been issued by Northern Health and Interior Health, following an increase in overdose events.
One covers the Fort St John area, and is connected to a redish-brown substance being sold as down in blue pill cases.
It is leading to prolonged and heavy sedation, and is resulting in overdoses when both smoked or injected.
A second alert is covering the Williams Lake area, and is connected to numerous overdose events linked to down or fentanyl use.
Users are advised to know their tolerance, start small and go slow, and to never use alone or mix drugs with alcohol or other drugs.
While the alerts are issued in specific areas, authorities warn that drugs can quickly spread across the north.
