We all know Prince Rupert is awaiting Federal funds to fix their water infrastructure, but it isn’t the only project in the City awaiting word from Ottawa.
In August, the City applied for $10 million through the Federal Housing Accelerator Fund to help bring much needed housing to town.
Part of that application required them to establish a Housing Acceleration Action Plan, which Council adopted at their regular meeting this week.
If successful, the funding will allow them to begin pre-development for lands held by the City or Prince Rupert Legacy Inc.
It would also them to develop designs for accessory dwelling units for homebuilders, establish a peat dump, and waive frontage requirements.
But, the plan also establishes a number of policy directions which do not depend on funding to be acted on.
Thos include: pre-zoning lots for future development, permitting of attached accessory dwelling units, reducing parking requirements downtown, and standardizing procedure and incentive packages for sold lots.
All policy changes that are normally subject to public input processes will still need to go through those processes to be adopted.
