A new stand-alone daycare facility in Prince Rupert will bring more than a hundred new and much-needed child care spaces to the city.
School District 52 has secured $10.5 million through the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund to build a new facility next to Lax Kxeen Elementary.
Once completed, it will include a total of 144 spaces, an increase of 111 over what is currently available at the site.
It will include licensed spaces for infants and toddlers, group care for those 30 months old to school-age, and after school care for Kindergarten to Grade 5 students.
Few details on the construction are available, but the District says it will be built to high standards, contain energy-efficient systems, and be universally accessible.
There is no word yet on when construction is set to begin.
