A new initiative aimed at advancing the role of First Nations in the province’s economy has been launched by the BC Assembly of First Nations.
Titled the BC First Nations Centre of Excellence for Economic Development, it looks to drive sustainable and innovative economic reconciliation.
It will focus on business capacity expansion, strategic development, policy and research, and the exploration of Indigenous trade.
But it will also do so while implementing and recognizing the rights and title of each Nation as it seeks to increase BC’s collective economic potential.
Daylu Dena Council Deputy Chief Harlan Schilling will head up the new project as its first CEO.
Funding for the Centre comes from a $1.2 million initial investment from the province, plus an additional $1.9 million over the next two years.
