For the first time in decades, a totem pole will be raised at a Prince Rupert location other than Charles Hays Secondary School this weekend.
Carved by renowned artist Mike Dangeli, the 10 foot pole is a sister pole to the one which stands just over an hour away in Kitsumkalum.
Both poles commemorate missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2-spirit people, as well as Residential School survivors.
All are welcome to attend the pole raising, which will take place at the Galloway Rapids at 10:00 Saturday morning.
Due to limited parking, attendees are asked not to drive to the event, but a shuttle will take residents too and from the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.
Shuttles begin at 9:00 in the morning, and a feast will follow the ceremony at the Centre, with the full event wrapping up at 5:00.
