Months of advocacy from Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach has helped secure fresh federal funding for struggling northern farmers.
Farmers and ranchers in BC have had to incur significant expenses this summer while contending with wildfires and persistent drought conditions.
With hay production north of Williams Lake dwindling to as little as 10 percent of last year’s levels, many have also been forced to sell off their flocks.
Now, Ottawa has answered his calls by investing as much as $71 million in funding through the Wildfire and Drought AgriRecovery Initiative.
It offers to cover up to 70 percent of expenses to repair or replace damaged infrastructure, and ensure livestock are adequately fed and sheltered.
You can find a complete breakdown of what the initiative covers at this link.
