A new multi-sport outdoor court is now open in Metlakatla, thanks to a partnership with the Prince Rupert Port Authority.
With access to existing indoor facilities in high demand, many community members, particularly youth, lacked a recreational space to exercise.
Open 24/7, the new court supports numerous sports, including basketball, floor hockey, soccer, pickleball, volleyball, and more.
With a prime location next to the Elders’ Centre and HeadStart Program Offices, it will also serve as a new space to hold community gatherings.
Work to construct the court was managed entirely by the Metlakatla First Nation to ensure environmental and archeological impacts were considered.
In total, the Port Authority contributed just under $133,000 towards the project, which wrapped up last Friday.
