Ottawa and the Province are investing a combined $17 million into the construction of a new water treatment plant in Williams Lake.
In total, the project, which will also install 850 metres of new water mains, will cost just over $24 million with the City providing the remainder.
With a built-in chlorination and filtration system, the new plant will significantly reduce manganese levels in the community’s drinking water.
High levels of manganese can pose a health risk to the public, especially for vulnerable populations, children and the elderly.
