A state of emergency has been extended for the Village of McBride, with its mayor fearing that the community may soon run out of water.
Initially issued on September 19th, the emergency order came alongside significant water use restrictions, amid months of drought conditions.
Dominion Creek is the Village’s only source for potable water, but the mountain peak which feeds it was out of snow by July.
Mayor Gene Runtz says the community lacks the data to determine a course of action, and has called in a hygrologist to assist.
Some solutions could be building a temporary dam further up stream, or finding a way to get water to the Village from the Fraser River.
For the time beign, both the restrictions and state of emergency have been extended through at least the end of the month.
