Skeena Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach is fighting to give passenger rail more priority on Canadian railroads.
In December, Bachrach tabled Bill C-371 that will see VIA rail give priority to passenger trains and help improve performance and timeliness. The petition also includes the tracks that VIA Rail is currently running on, were mainly built in the 1950s and reaching the end of their usable life and are in need of upgrades.
Currently, CN and CP rail own the tracks and take top priority and this means that passenger trains will need to stop at any given time.
This past holiday season, Bachrach spent six days on a VIA train, travelling from Toronto to Smithers, BC to discuss the future of Canada’s passenger rail with passengers and communities across the country.
