Jennifer Rice, MLA for North Coast and Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health BC, recently took a trip to Haida Gwaii.
During her trip, she discussed various topics with leaders and locals, including emergency department closures, the housing crisis, reconciliation with the Haida Nation, connectivity issues, and shoreline erosion.
Emergency department closures and the future of health services are concerns on Haida Gwaii.
Rice says reconciliation with the Haida Nation is a priority, with a focus on alternative methods rather than settling through the court system. Shoreline erosion and climate change are important issues for the island, Rice adds, with efforts to become a 100% renewable energy community.
Rice spoke to CFNR about her trip and also shared news about healthcare and homes on the island.
