Provincially funded child care facility opened at Terrace Sportsplex

A new before and after school day care space was opened at the Terrace Sportsplex yesterday.

Feb. 29 was the official ribbon cutting ceremony, but the new facility had their soft opening at the end of October 2023.

Terrace Mayor Sean Bujtas was joined by Minister of Finance Katrine Conroy, on behalf of Mitzi Dean, Minister of State for Child Care. The Finance Minister emphasized the importance of affordable child care and the positive impact it has on families and the economy.

The renovations were made possible through $390,000 in funding from the Child Care BC New Spaces Fund, according to the City of Terrace website.

The child care facility is unique because it is fully operated by the Terrace municipality, the mayor said. Future plans include the addition of a rock climbing wall and the development of an outdoor education center.
