Today, on Good Medicine with Alexa Blyan…
We discuss the film Nisihkason Lex, and learn about using media to bring awareness to indigenous issues and heal generational trauma.
In this conversation, Alexa, a Cree woman from Sucker Creek First Nation, shares her journey as an activist and filmmaker, focusing on the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. She discusses the impact of violence against women and the importance of raising awareness and sharing stories. Alexa also talks about the challenges of growing up in a small town and the power of supportive relationships. She emphasizes the need for reconciliation and seeing beyond labels. Throughout the conversation, Alexa highlights the role of mentors and the healing power of media. She encourages living authentically and staying connected to culture as her good medicine.
She mentioned that what drives her to talk about MMIWG is seeing how much pain there is around her community; Around her friends; Seeing how much it’s affected every pretty much single person she’s met. In ways they don’t even realize, in ways that they cant see. It is an undeniable issue, and thats one of the things that drives her.
