The BC Association of Farmers’ Markets conducted an impact study of farmers markets including the Skeena Valley Farmers Market (SVFM) last summer and recently released the results.
According to the study, farmers’ markets in BC have grown over the past decade, despite social, and economic challenges. In Terrace, the Skeena Valley Farmers Market has over 37,000 visits each year. Results of the study also showed that customers at the SVFM spend more than the average of the regional studies per market visit.
CFNR spoke with Mike Cotton, Market Manager for SVFM, about what the study findings were for the Terrace Market and community.
“The most impressive figure is the 1.72 million that the economic benefit that a market has on the local economy,” says Cotton.
He added that SVFM is the largest in Northwest BC and attracts visitors from the local community as well as tourists.
