Second Incident Raises Concerns for Public Safety
In a follow-up investigation to a recent seizure, the RCMP discovered a significant cache of weapons and drugs at a homeless camp located near the 4300 block of Lakelse Ave in Terrace.
The discovery, which occurred on May 31, 2024, marked the second incident in just over a week at the same location. During the initial visit on May 24, RCMP officers seized weapons, suspected drugs, and drug paraphernalia while conducting a by-law investigation.
Upon returning to the camp, officers observed weapons in the area and subsequently detained several individuals. A thorough search led to the discovery and seizure of additional weapons, cell phones, cash, and suspected drugs. All confiscated items have been submitted for civil forfeiture.
In light of these incidents, the RCMP issued a reminder to the public urging caution when hiking or walking, particularly in areas where homeless camps may be present. They emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and avoiding potentially unsafe locations.
The RCMP’s swift response underscores their commitment to ensuring public safety and addressing illegal activities within the community. Investigations into both incidents remain ongoing as law enforcement continues their efforts to maintain security and peace in the area.
