This summer, BC families will see a boost in their BC Family Benefit payments to help manage rising living costs. Premier David Eby has announced that starting mid-July, families in BC will receive increased BC Family Benefit payments. This move comes as global inflation and high interest rates continue to drive up everyday expenses.
The increase means that families will receive an average of $445 more than last year. A one-year bonus is also being added to the benefit, which translates to a 25% increase. For a family of four, this could mean up to $3,563 annually, while a single parent with one child might receive as much as $2,688. Payments will be delivered through monthly deposits or mailed cheques.
In addition to the benefit increase, the Province has launched the BC Benefits Connector, an online resource to help residents access various government benefits and programs more easily.
The Province is also implementing other measures to help with the cost of living, such as a fourth ICBC rebate, keeping hydro rates low, free prescription birth control, free transit for kids, and one free round of in-vitro fertilization.
