The District of Kitimat and Haisla Nation Council celebrated the conclusion of a two-year relationship building project with the signing of a friendship agreement June 13.
Facilitated through the Community Economic Development Initiative (CEDI) program launched in March 2022, the agreement aims to enhance economic development through respectful partnership.
The agreement was signed at a celebration at Minette Bay West Park on Sunday, June 2; the agreement sets the stage for continued cooperation and mutual benefit, fostering a strong, inclusive relationship between the communities, according to its partners.
Mayor Phil Germuth spoke with CFNR about the agreement, stating that it was initiated by LNG Canada and how it brought the two councils together to build friendships and relationships.
The agreement signifies the commitment to working together and promoting cultural exchange and understanding.
CFNR contacted Haisla Nation Council for a comment but did not receive a response.
