PRINCE RUPERT, July 19, 2024 – Residents of Prince Rupert are advised to boil their water following a precautionary Boil Water Notice issued today by the City. The notice comes as the city undertakes vital equipment repairs and replacements in its water system, impacting water quality.
The Boil Water Notice is a proactive measure due to ongoing maintenance work on the water system’s equipment. It is important to note that the notice is precautionary and not due to pathogenic contamination.
Residents are instructed to bring water to a rolling boil for at least 2-3 minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing vegetables for raw consumption, or making ice.
Water can be used without boiling for bathing and washing clothes.
Residents are urged to inform their neighbors about the Boil Water Notice to ensure widespread awareness and compliance with the precautions.
Public Facilities: Owners of public facilities must prominently display Boil Water Notices at all sinks and drinking water fountains accessible to the public. Alternatively, they should turn off these facilities. They are also required to verbally notify their customers about the notice.
