The Eby Street Staircase/Trails Construction Project in Terrace is set to enhance connectivity between the Bench area and the city below, according to Terrace Mayor Sean Bujtas.
The project will upgrade two key trails: Pumphouse Trail and Terrace Viewpoint Trail. Pumphouse Trail will feature improved stairs and a more manageable grade, while Terrace Viewpoint Trail will be re-routed to accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists with a gentler slope, Bujtas says.
Funded by $650,000 in provincial and federal grants and $72,000 from the city, the total budget is $750,000.
Construction has begun on the Skeena View lookout trail, with completion expected by early fall. The project aims to expand the trail network, enhance safety, and provide more accessible recreational routes. It will also address issues with unsafe infrastructure and unofficial routes, offering better, eco-friendly options for the community, the mayor says.
“We’re hoping sometime early fall at the latest we’ll see these trails fully completed,” Bujtas says.
