The Haisla Nation celebrated the homecoming of the HaiSea Wamis as the vessel and crew pulled into Kitimaat Village on July 29.
The HaiSea Wamis is the first electric tugboat to receive an Underwater Noise Notation from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
This recognition underscores the Haisla Nation’s commitment to integrating green technology and setting high environmental standards in their territory, according to Seaspan, the partner on the project with the Haisla Nation.
CFNR spoke with Chief Crystal Smith who says the inclusion of Haisla crew members in operating the tugs highlights the success of the nation’s efforts to provide quality careers and leadership opportunities. The return of the Wamis to traditional Haisla waters symbolize a proud moment and a commitment to balancing economic progress with environmental stewardship, she adds.
