On August 19, youth gathered in Gitxsan Territory to protest the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission (PRGT) pipeline and Ksi Lisims terminal, set to begin construction this weekend. The event, attended by over 300 people in person and many more via livestream, highlighted the environmental and cultural impacts of the projects.
Key issues raised included the potential harm to the Kispiox River, already stressed by drought, and the exclusion of youth from discussions about the pipeline. Organizers burned Impact Benefit Agreements and announced plans for legal action against the provincial government. Local experts and youth leaders called for greater investment in future generations and immediate action to protect their lands and waters.
The event was supported by various local organizations and emphasized the urgent need for decision-makers to align with their earlier commitments to environmental and community well-being.
