BC Transit is advancing its Electronic Fare Collection System across multiple regions, having launched the Umo Mobility app and reloadable Umo cards earlier this year. As part of this transition, BC Transit will discontinue the sale of several legacy fare products on December 1, 2024.
In Fort St. John, the legacy 10 Ride Ticket, Adult Monthly Pass, Student/Senior Monthly Pass, and Post-Secondary Monthly Pass will no longer be available. New fare products will include single rides and 10-ride passes, with prices remaining the same as before. The BC Bus Pass and cash will still be accepted, and a new Umo-compatible token will be introduced for social wellness organizations.
Dawson Creek will also stop selling the Adult and Student/Senior Monthly Passes. Fare options will include single ride tickets, DayPASSes, and 30-Day Passes, with current prices unchanged. As with Fort St. John, the BC Bus Pass will continue to be accepted.
In the Skeena, Terrace, and Kitimat regions, the sale of legacy 10 Ride Tickets, Adult, and Student/Senior Monthly Passes will end. New fare structures will include single rides, 10-ride passes, and 30-day passes. Route-specific fare adjustments will also be implemented. Cash and the BC Bus Pass will remain valid.
Prince Rupert and Port Edward will phase out the sale of legacy 10 Ride Tickets, Adult, and Student/Senior Monthly Passes, with the introduction of new fare options including single rides and DayPASSes. Route-specific fares and a Semester Pass will be available. The BC Bus Pass will continue to be accepted.
In Quesnel, legacy scratch-off DayPASSes, 10 Ticket, Adult, and Student/Senior Monthly Passes will be discontinued. Fare products including single rides and 10-ride passes will remain priced as before. U-Pass options for university students will still be offered.
For all regions, legacy tickets and passes will be accepted until exhausted. Umo fare products can be loaded via the Umo app, online, at retail locations, or through customer service. BC Transit also plans to enable onboard debit and credit card payments in the future. For more information and support, visit bctransit.com/umo or call 877-380-8181.
