The beloved Jack-o-Lantern Festival in Terrace, also known as the Pumpkin Walk, may not take place this year and is in danger of being canceled for the second consecutive year.
Traditionally held at Ferry Island for over a decade, the festival allows locals to showcase their pumpkin carving skills after Halloween.
Last year, the event was nearly called off but was saved by Paige Skrabyk and Sandy Watson of the Hideout Cafe, which has since closed its doors earlier this year.
This year, Save-On-Foods, the original organizers and founders of this event in Terrace, are unable to host the festival but is offering candles to anyone willing to take over the event.
The festival traditionally supports the local fire department’s burn fund through donations.
This year’s lack of coordination means residents should refrain from bringing pumpkins to Ferry Island, as there will be no one to light them or manage disposal.
Without new leadership, the future of this cherished community celebration remains uncertain. Locals are hopeful that someone will step up to keep the tradition alive.
