A Special Weather Statement has been issued for the North Coast – Coastal Sections, warning of heavy rain and strong winds from today through Wednesday morning. Total rainfall amounts could reach up to 150 mm, with the heaviest rain expected today. Southeast winds of 80 km/h gusting to 100 km/h are also forecast for exposed coastal areas. This combination of rain and high winds could cause localized flooding, water pooling, and power outages, especially as the rain falls on snow or melts existing snow. High winds may also cause tree branches to fall or damage loose objects. These weather conditions may lead to travel delays, particularly on exposed coastal routes.
Additionally, several interior regions, including the Lakes District, Bulkley Valley, Fort Nelson, and the B.C. Peace region, are under freezing rain warnings this morning. Freezing rain is expected to create icy and slippery conditions on highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots, which could impact the morning commute. Ice accumulation may also cause tree branches to break and lead to utility outages. While the freezing rain is expected to persist through the afternoon, conditions are expected to improve as temperatures rise later in the day. Travelers are advised to adjust to changing road conditions and remain cautious.
