A dog believed to belong to missing B.C. paramedic Jim Barnes has been found alive, offering new hope in the search for him. Barnes and his golden retriever, Murphy, were last seen on October 18 near Chetwynd, B.C. The dog was discovered injured and emaciated on November 28, about 100 kilometers from Barnes’s last known location. While the dog was not microchipped, steps taken to verify its identity, including behavior tests at a local grooming parlour, have led to the belief that it is indeed Murphy.
RCMP are aware of the discovery and are following up on investigative leads, though they have not confirmed the dog’s identity. The news has sparked calls to resume the search for Barnes, whose disappearance was first reported after he failed to return home on October 18. The case has drawn renewed attention following the rescue of another missing person in northeastern B.C. after weeks in the wilderness.
