Prince George RCMP is urging Residents local businesses and surrounding areas, to be extra cautious after a spike in counterfeit bill reports. Since December 1, 17 cases have been reported, a significant increase from the usual one or two per month. Most of the counterfeit bills are $20 and $50 notes, with some appearing to be designed for classroom use and others photocopied. Authorities believe this is part of a new trend in fraud.
If you suspect a bill is fake, politely refuse it, ask for another note, and report the incident to local police. The RCMP reminds the public that passing counterfeit money is a crime, and timely reporting helps prevent further fraud. For tips on detecting fake bills, visit the Bank of Canada’s website.
