Residents of Fort St. James and surrounding areas are advised of upcoming service interruptions at the Emergency Department of Stuart Lake Hospital due to staffing challenges.
The Emergency Department will be closed overnight on Saturday, January 11, and Sunday, January 12, from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. On both days, the department will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
For life-threatening emergencies such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or severe bleeding, residents should call 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest available facility. Signage will be posted at the hospital to inform patients about service interruptions and the need to call 9-1-1 for transport during the closures.
For non-urgent medical concerns, individuals can contact the Northern Health Virtual Primary & Community Care Clinic at 1-844-645-7811 (open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.) or visit Northern Health Virtual Clinic to speak with a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
The First Nations Virtual Doctor of the Day program is available for Indigenous people and their families with limited access to a doctor. To make a virtual appointment, call 1-855-344-3800 (available daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
Additionally, Northern BC residents can book an appointment with a pharmacist for 21 minor ailments and prescription contraceptives via Book a Pharmacist.
