Northern Savings & City of Prince Rupert Present Free “Unplug and Play” Programs
PRINCE RUPERT, JANUARY 14, 2025 – The City of Prince Rupert and Northern Savings Credit Union are partnering to offer a week of free recreational programs in celebration of Family Literacy Week, from January 20-26, 2025. This collaboration is made possible by a generous $5,000 annual donation from Northern Savings for the next three years, aimed at ensuring all families can enjoy accessible recreation.
Over 30 activities will be available throughout the week, including spin, juggling, swordplay, skating, dance, yoga, and a special community event at the library. The Unplug and Play initiative encourages families to unplug from digital devices and enjoy physical activity together, supporting both physical and mental well-being.
“We’re thrilled to offer this exciting program in partnership with Northern Savings,” said Nicole Beauregard, Director of Recreation and Community Services. “This initiative, along with our Recreation Access Program, helps make recreation accessible for everyone, especially during school breaks.”
Recreation Access Subsidy Program
In addition to Unplug and Play, the City’s Recreation Access Subsidy Program offers financial support to families in need, providing 90% subsidies for children/youth and 50% subsidies for adults. Eligible participants also receive 50 free admissions annually for activities such as swimming, skating, and gym access. The application process is confidential and based on financial need.
