During a January 13th council meeting, the City of Terrace’s Engineering & Public Works department announced that Kalum Street and Emerson Street will be repaved with a new layer of asphalt by spring 2025.
Originally planned for completion in 2024, the project was delayed due to “unprecedented rains” in September and October.
Kalum Street, from Park Avenue to Lakelse Avenue, and Emerson Street, from Skeenaview to Davis Avenue, are both set to receive the upgrades.
In July 2024, several road sections, including Kalum, Emerson, and part of Greig Avenue, were identified as being in poor condition.
That same month, the city applied for and secured additional funding from the province’s Northwest B.C. Resource Benefits Alliance, adding $975,000 to their overlay budget, bringing the total to $1.175 million.
While Greig Avenue was completed in 2024, only $150,000 of the budget has been spent so far.
The remaining funds will go toward completing the work on Kalum and Emerson streets in spring 2025.
